The following advertisement appears on the ESPN MLB page (I'm sure it appears elsewhere on ESPN and on the internet, but that's where I found it):
So, wait, I have to click this ad banner in order to be considered a fan of Bud Light? Average consumption of about 55 per week* doesn't automatically enter me into the "fan" category? What is going on here?
What if the Mets made me click a banner on a website in order to be considered a fan? This is an outrage. I think we should start a petition - I'll look into the logistics - to end this "click for fandom" scheme. Anybody with me?
*This is a conservative estimate - based on 15 per weekend night and 5 per weeknight. The actual number is likely much higher.
