Odalis Perez to Hold Out On Contract

Odalis Perez will not join the Nationals in Spring Training Camp until they increase the value of his contract and guarantee him a major league deal, Ramon Hernandez Put Down The Gun has learned.  Under the terms of the contract, Odalis will make $850,000 and is not guaranteed a roster spot with the major league club out of spring training.

Apparently, Perez must feel he is exerting some sort of pressure on the Nationals by not upholding his end of this deal, but I don't see how.  He's signed to a minor league deal, so they aren't even counting on him making the team.  Why would they agree to renegotiate this deal?  The only party hurt here is Perez, who now looks absolutely untrustworthy.  Manny can't even get away with that type of shit and get himself signed this offseason, how the fuck is Odalis Perez going to pull it off?

Anyway, this is a good time to mention that back in '06, while Odalis was with the Dodgers, he lost his starting job and retaliated against the organization by.... cancelling "O's 45," the charity program he started and supported that bought tickets for 45 inner city youths to attend his starts.  I'm not making this up.  He went on to refuse to restart the program after regaining his spot because "people don't want to give me the recognition for it."

I guess knowing that, the Nationals have to renegotiate with him.  They need him to round out their all scumbags team with Dmitri Young, Scott Olsen, Lastings Milledge, and Elijah Dukes.
