During an appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", President Obama made an ill advised self deprecating joke regarding his embarrassing bowling score of 129, by saying it "was like Special Olympics or something". Each comment on the decidedly informal appearance has been dissected and analyzed ad nauseum but the Special Olympics comment has garnered the president with harsh critcism from advocates of the Special Olympics.
Special Olympics representatives have demanded an apology from the president because of his "insensitive remarks which make light of the physical and mental handicaps of millions of people worldwide". President Obama was quick to issue an apology shortly after the appearance, as advised by his staff who rightfully feared criticism concerning the joke. One presidential advisor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Obama issued the apology but "with great reluctance". The anonymous advisor went on to say that Obama didn't understand why he had to apologize, continually muttering "I still think it's funny" while penning the apology.
On the other end of the spectrum, a group called the Retarded Bowlers of America (RBA), unsurpringsly slow in picking up on the President's joke, were happy to acknowledge that the president was correct in making the comparison. RBA spokesperson Stanley Wilson eagerly scribbled the official statement "Obama's right, we do suck at bowling." in red crayon on the back of a "Jeffrey the Dinosaur" coloring book page. When Obama was notified of the RBA's statement, he sighed and told his staff "Fuck, I guess I really do suck at bowling".
